The Kura Door

Monday, July 2, 2007

As a gift to Scott for taking their engagement pictures Nick and Lara gave us a very, very generous Couple's Retreat gift certificate to the Japanese style spa called The Kura Door. We finally cashed in Thursday night. What can I say? It was the most delightful experience that happened in the month of June (and maybe May for that matter).

We started with a traditional tea ceremony in a room that was furnished with tatami mats and traditional Japanese decor which got us in the Japanese spirit. We're not big tea drinker but it was fun anyway.

Next we moved to the o-furo (which is bath in Japanese). We got to pick the scent of the rock salts that would be added to the water. Citrus Medley, please. The room was lit by candle light and had a totally relaxing, calming presence to it. We got to soak in the tub for about 30 wonderful minutes. They had cucumber/lemon water and cool towels for us as we relaxed in the hot water. Yes, please. Oh, and let me not forget the cucumber for our eyes.

After the soak we moved to the couple massage room. This possibly could've been the best massage I've ever had. After massaging my feet they wrapped them in hot towels!! Heaven. An hour and a complete relaxed body later we were done with the night and ready to go to sleep.

The whole Kura Door experience was amazing. The facility is gorgeous and everyone there was extremely kind and helpful. If you are looking for a pampering I would highly suggest this spa. They have all kinds of treatments for individuals and couples. Its up in the Ave's and they've just done an amazing job at making it authentic. You can check out the website here.

Thanks so much Nick & Lara. We would've never done something like this for ourselves so we really really appreciated the indulgence!
